Some points of progress

We’ve been in and working on the house for a few weeks now and things are getting better! I’m posting some before after pictures of the master Bedroom closet door install and wall repair along with some before after crack repairs in the dinning room. The house has cleaned up well and now that the endless dust has stopped magically appearing on everything daily it is starting to feel more like a house than a dust-money pit.

In the Master bedroom there was a hidden room (behind a large armoire) and a partially closed hole that used to lead into another bathroom. SO, I closed the hole in the wall and put a closet door in for the entrance to the large walk in closet (aka hidden room). There was one extra 80+ year old door already in the house so I used that one for the closet door.

While I was at it I did some crack repair to a corner of the dinning room. We are testing using Heavy Duty Liquid Nails and fiberglass mesh tape to repair cracks in the plaster walls. Then applying a little drywall mud to smooth things out. These cracks are from previous work done to level the house and place it on a real concrete foundation.

We are still deciding on colors so it is too soon for plaster and there are plenty of cracks to repair between now and then.  Unfortunately that means holding off on replacing base boards, crown molding and trimming in doors and windows until after the walls have been repaired and refinished.  Well that’s it fro this update, we are taking lots of pictures and plan to publish more comprehensive details once we get some work done and have the time to do more writing . . .

No active projects?

LOL, For the first time in years I have no active web design projects, but that is mostly due to our good fortune and moving schedule. We are moving into one of the coolest old houses we will probably ever live in and it needs some TLC. I’ll be back at it (web design) in April after I finish cleaning and repairing the immediate issues at our new (OLD) house. Until then I’ll keep posting about our moving adventures and some of our ‘This Old House’ styled fixer upper projects (hi-jinks) with material lists and photos.

Working on the old house

We spent a few hours cleaning up and organizing inside the house today. Tomorrow will consist of  more packing, truck loading, leaf raking and tree branch removal. Oh, and gathering supplies and suit to remove the bee hive. I love the bees, but I cannot leave them around our little guys playing in the front yard. I’ll take some more pictures this week. Until then I’ll include a picture of an old photo I found in the house today. This is the front of the house from earlier days when my father started to restore the house.

Here’s the back yard

The view of the house at night with the lights on is amazing. In the daylight however it still looks like a Frankenstein. With some hard work it is going to be a pretty thing before the end of this year.

In the next few weeks I’ll be adding some before and after pictures so you will be able to follow our progress.

Been working on the house

Wow, it is slow going but we keep loading stuff up and getting it gone. Still lots of clean up on the property before we can really start restoring the house, but with all the storming lately there are no active leaks in the house roof.

Different story in the shop/garage. That building will need a new roof before Monsoon season hits! More to come. If you want to see more pictures check them out on the Flickr photo stream

IPad Wow!

Wow, Stacy wants one and I cannot wait to write some apps for the new Apple iPad! Warning, here comes my over excited ramble.

People who don’t get it or think that techies won’t use it can yawn all they want but this little putter that could is going to be everywhere. Those who want their free apps will jailbreak it and use it. Adobe wants to piss in the apps pond by getting Flash games on there but Apple has no incentive to allow it. Content publishers, after a short period of wait and see, will absolutely make whatever leap they need to in order to get their content on this system. Adobe may fall on its own sword this time, right alongside the naysayers who are making jokes about Apple fan boys drinking the Koolaid.

This is the first gen of the computer I dreamed of using when I was learning Pascal and Fortran on Orca compiler running on the Apple II+ and IIe. I had a Timex Sinclare color and a portable Atari with 8 lines of text (LOL, as seen in Terminator II hacking an ATM). I was never much of a Comodore or Tandy fan.

In our house the computers are used for work and managing our large media collections. Almost all of our social networking, email and news reading is done on our iTouch puters. When we go food shopping today those itouch devices will be in our pockets with all our favorite recipes and grocery list on them.

BTW, I did just touch type this post to my website using the free Wordpress2 App running on my itouch while helping my 2 year old build a Hot Wheels track and dig his cars out of the toy box.

Once I can use Photshop on a larger portable touch device like the iPad my desktop will miss being touched.

End ramble . . . .
- Cheers!

PS. “All I need is this xBox 1440 and my iPad 8.0.”
