Some points of progress
We’ve been in and working on the house for a few weeks now and things are getting better! I’m posting some before after pictures of the master Bedroom closet door install and wall repair along with some before after crack repairs in the dinning room. The house has cleaned up well and now that the endless dust has stopped magically appearing on everything daily it is starting to feel more like a house than a dust-money pit.
In the Master bedroom there was a hidden room (behind a large armoire) and a partially closed hole that used to lead into another bathroom. SO, I closed the hole in the wall and put a closet door in for the entrance to the large walk in closet (aka hidden room). There was one extra 80+ year old door already in the house so I used that one for the closet door.
While I was at it I did some crack repair to a corner of the dinning room. We are testing using Heavy Duty Liquid Nails and fiberglass mesh tape to repair cracks in the plaster walls. Then applying a little drywall mud to smooth things out. These cracks are from previous work done to level the house and place it on a real concrete foundation.
We are still deciding on colors so it is too soon for plaster and there are plenty of cracks to repair between now and then. Unfortunately that means holding off on replacing base boards, crown molding and trimming in doors and windows until after the walls have been repaired and refinished. Well that’s it fro this update, we are taking lots of pictures and plan to publish more comprehensive details once we get some work done and have the time to do more writing . . .

We spent a few hours cleaning up and organizing inside the house today. Tomorrow will consist of more packing, truck loading, leaf raking and tree branch removal. Oh, and gathering supplies and suit to remove the bee hive. I love the bees, but I cannot leave them around our little guys playing in the front yard. I’ll take some more pictures this week. Until then I’ll include a picture of an old photo I found in the house today. This is the front of the house from earlier days when my father started to restore the house.
Here’s the back yard
The view of the house at night with the lights on is amazing. In the daylight however it still looks like a Frankenstein. With some hard work it is going to be a pretty thing before the end of this year.
In the next few weeks I’ll be adding some before and after pictures so you will be able to follow our progress.
